The Yellow Pad and Bell alarm has a choice of alarm sound or music and two volume levels. The alarm takes one 9V battery. The sound box goes on the bedside table. The alarm mat (pad) goes on the bed. There is a lead from the mat (pad) to the alarm box. Nothing is attached to the child.
Setting up the alarm each night is the parent’s job.
Lay the alarm mat on top of the fitted sheet. Alternatively put a waterproof overlay mat on top of the fitted sheet to save washing the sheets and put the alarm mat on top of the waterproof overlay mat.
Fold an old sheet into four and put it over the alarm mat and tuck it in on both sides.
The folded sheet holds the alarm mat in place and is more comfortable for the child. It also stops perspiration setting off the alarm. Also move the mat a bit lower. Rather than placing it higher up under the child’s back place it lower i.e. between the knee and the waist.
For children who only wet the bed occasionally the alarm mat can be placed under the fitted sheet.
Attach the lead to the alarm box and turn it on. Test the alarm by moistening an area from one stripe to the next on the alarm mat with a wet paper towel so the child can hear what will happen during the night. Start with the music option as the alarm is extremely loud. Use the alarm option if your child is older or does not respond to the music. After the alarm sounds the child turns it off. If necessary the parent should wake the child. The parent must go into the child’s room and turn on the light and then set up the bed again. The mat should be washed gently by the parent with warm soapy water, rinsed with water and patted dry. The same mat should be re-used. Keep the spare mat in case of a relapse or breakage of the first mat.
To get the best results with any alarm start with the steps on the Bedwetting Cured DVD. This prepares your child to respond to the alarm. For children only wetting occasionally the Alarm can be started at the same time as the steps on the Bedwetting Cured DVD.
