The Pad & Bell mat alarm is an extremely loud alarm for very deep sleepers, older children, and those who have failed using another alarm. Also recommended for those who only wet occasionally. Cannot be worn with pull-ups.
This alarm is suitable for anyone wetting the bed but is particularly useful for those needing an extremely loud alarm. It has a choice of alarm sound or music and two volume levels but is very loud and may be too loud for timid children. If necessary the sound box can be wrapped in a towel to make the sound softer. Remember it is important for parents to hear the alarm and go in to help their child during the night so it is important that the parents can hear the alarm. The mat alarm is recommended for anyone who has tried an alarm before without success, and for teenagers and adults who still have a bedwetting problem.
It is also useful for anyone wetting occasionally as it does not need setting up each night and can be left on the bed ready for the occasional wet night. Also there is nothing for the person to wear. This alarm cannot be used with pull-ups as it is essential for the moisture to go through to the mat. Wear pyjamas or usual bed clothes.
Some pad and bell alarms cost nearly two thousand dollars and so are only hired out through hospitals. We are now able to make the pad and bell alarms available at a manageable price. It is essential to purchase an alarm as relapses are common after a successful cure, often when the child is sick or over tired. You need the alarm there in case this happens so you can restart the alarm immediately otherwise the problem may return on a regular basis.
It may only go off once or twice before the problem is under control again. Your confidence will grow that the problem is completely cured once the child has had six months without a wet night.
We recommend getting the DVD as well as this alarm.
The sound box goes on the bedside table. A waterproof mattress protector goes over the mattress. A sheet goes over the waterproof mattress protector. Then a waterproof mattress overlay goes on top of the sheet. The alarm mat goes into a pillow case and sits on top of the waterproof mattress overlay. The pillow slip and the waterproof overlay will need changing during the night if the alarm goes off but the sheet should not need changing. The child wears pyjamas as usual. The mat is 53cm x 42cm (21 x 16.5 inches). The alarm will sound once the alarm mat becomes wet. Pull-ups cannot be worn with this type of alarm. Consider purchasing one or more overlays link to save on the washing and bed making.
